Dutch School – Het Nest

ISKR is pleased to host the Dutch school, Het Nest, on campus after school hours. Het Nest provides classes in Dutch language and culture for children in elementary school and levels 1, 2, and 3 of secondary school (VO). Classes are held at both ISKR and Ecole Belge. All children with one or two Dutch speaking parents are welcome, including students from other schools in the Kigali area. Het Nest has two teachers: the director of the school, who teaches groups 3 – 8 and VO and a second teacher, who oversees groups 1 and 2.

Classes are held on school days beginning after dismissal at 15:15.  Activities may also be held on Saturdays, usually in order to more fully explore cultural themes such as music, history, Sinterklaas, King’s Day, and the children’s book week.  One hundred and twenty  hours of instruction are required

Belgian and Dutch parents form the Board of Directors, which is composed of a president, a treasurer, and a secretary, as well as representatives from the Dutch and Belgian embassies.

To inscribe your child or for information, please contact the director, Elmer Roze (elmer@hetnest.org), or the Board of Directors (nestkig@gmail.com). You can also find more information on the Het Nest website.

Head of Dutch School Het Nest
Bachelor in Primary Education, HvA – Amsterdam

I just arrived in Kigali this summer and I will be teaching Dutch to children of the Dutch and Belgian community in Kigali. I have been a primary school teacher in my beloved Amsterdam since 2000. In 2013, I moved to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam for four years, where I had a similar job as I have here.  During my years in Vietnam my wife Denise and I got two kids, who are now residents of Rwanda as well. It is a privilege to be teaching at ISKR. I’m very happy with the colleagues and facilities here.
